Citizenship
General Requirements:
- The applicant must be a permanent resident;
- The applicant must have a continuous residence in the United
States for five years or for three years, if permanent residency
was obtained through marriage with a US citizen and the applicant
remains married to the same US citizen;
- The applicant must have been physically present in the United
States for a minimum period, which is at least half the period of
required continuous residence;
- The applicant must have the ability to read, write and speak
ordinary English (some exceptions apply);
- The applicant must have knowledge of U.S. history and
government; and
- The applicant must have good moral character.
